Exhibiting Artist:
Barbara Brodtmann – Watercolor/Acrylic
Barbara uses her paintbrush to create impressions of life on the beautiful Mississippi Gulf Coast. She works in layers, often building up as many as forty layers of paint before she feels satisfied that what is looking back at her from the canvas is a reflection of the world as she sees it. She experimented in several mediums along the way before deciding that watercolor and acrylics were the medium for her vision. For years now, she has created 3-D collages on watercolor paper that weave together coastal flora and fauna into a tapestry of delight.
Born in Michigan and educated at Hillsdale College and SyracuseUniversity, Brodtmann moved to New Orleans in the 1970s and began painting professionally. She has a long history of teaching art, to both children and adults. More recently, she has been teaching adults during her “Wine, Women and Watercolor” sessions, and her “Lunch and a Lesson” series as well.
